STEVE & SHARI MATTESON
Steve Matteson was born in Riverside in 1956, and moved to the beautiful coastal town of Leucadia in 1959. Steve's Parents, Wayne and Gloria, bought land in Leucadia and started a growing business of cut flowers, house plants, shipping their products world-wide.  Locals may remember their location on the corner of N. Vulcan and La Costa Avenue!  Growing up, Steve and his siblings worked hard at the greenhouse doing "painful chores", as Steve's "little kid memory" tells him.  Later, Steve enjoyed growing Giant Pothos, Staghorn Ferns, and Fuchsias, building his own redwood hanging baskets for the Fuchsias - Quite possibly the beginning of Steve's never-ending construction talents!  Steve and his brother eventually began working in construction, meeting Shari along the way.  He later returned to working at Matteson's Greenhouses and

Florist, with his parents, brother, and sister, working all aspects of the business.   Steve enjoys the propagation of plants, and has great talent in building and repairing just about anything, which is really handy when something is needed in our gardens or greenhouse. We know we can tell Steve what we need, and he'll make it work beautifully!

Shari Matteson was born Shari Burgess in 1964, and grew up in the Rancho Santa Fe and the Encinitas area. Shari vividly remembers growing up in the old, rugged back country of RSF - "Spook's Canyon" was her own back yard, she remembers fondly.  She is also happy to recall her favorite wildflowers growing on their property (Shooting Stars), gardening with her Mom, and riding horses at the nearby stable. Shari enjoyed horticulture and biology in high school, and developed an interest in becoming a veterinary technician, working for a small and large animal practice during and following high school.  However, her constant passion for plants, has never quit blooming.  Describing plants as "a part of life that is truly amazing", Sharienjoys collecting and propagating many varieties, including succulents and cacti, which do extremely well at her home in Valley Center.

Together, Steve and Shari are proud to continue the tradition of Buena Creek Gardens and would like to take this opportunity to welcome you with a special letter to our friends!
